This
statue, titled “Lincoln Rallies The
People,” commemorates the speech
delivered by Mr. Lincoln on October
16, 1858 on the lawn of the Logan
County Courthouse. This speech was
delivered during his campaign for
the U.S Senate on the day following
the final Lincoln-Douglas debate in
Alton. It attracted approximately
5,000 citizens from all parts of
Logan County and beyond and was
widely covered in the press. This
speech was an important event in the
national political career of Abraham
Lincoln and was also an important
part of the history of Logan County
and Central Illinois.
This statue is a life-size bronze
work designed by noted Illinois
sculptor David Seagraves and cast by
the In-Bronze Foundry in Mt. Morris,
Illinois. The completion of this
statue is the result of the
contributions of many generous
donors and various fundraising
events conducted by the Committee,
including the sale of thirty
numbered, bronze replica statues.
This statue is scheduled to be
delivered to the Logan County
Courthouse lawn on Monday, April 27,
2015 at 1:00p.m.. The dedication
program for the statue will occur on
Saturday, May 16, 2015 at 1:00p.m.
and will feature, as a keynote
speaker, Mr. Guy Fraker of
Bloomington. Mr. Fraker is a
well-known Illinois and Abraham
Lincoln historian.

The Abraham Lincoln
Statue Committee of Logan County
welcomes all who would like to
witness the arrival of the statue on
the courthouse lawn on April 27.
Also, the Committee would especially
like to extend an invitation to the
press and to the public to attend
the dedication ceremony on May 16 at
1:00 p.m., as this will represent an
important part in telling the story
of Abraham Lincoln in Logan County
and in Illinois to residents and
travelers alike, today and in future
generations.
