Logan County Genealogical &
Historical Society is
participating in the Route 66
Garage Sales this weekend by
offering several valuable and
one-of-a-kind items from its
inventory, and a variety of
interesting items donating for
sale by society members and
local supporters. This one's for
you if you want something
different at a good price.
The LGCHS Route 66 Garage Sale,
114 N. Chicago St., Lincoln,
will be from 8 am to 5 pm Friday
and from 8 pm to 2 pm Saturday,
June 13. Donations for the
garage sale are being accepted
through Wednesday. The Center
will be open from 1 to 4 pm
Wednesday for drop-offs.
Collectors may be interested in
the black and white photographs
of beach scenes at Lincoln
Lakes, a Monopoly-like Lincoln,
IL Centennial board game;
Lincoln College yearbooks and
those from Lincoln High School,
beginning with the 1914
Panorama, and other area high
schools. Copies of This Is My
Story, Logan County Veterans
book, vol. 2, will be available
at a reduced price. Other items
on sale include a collector
quality Native American doll,
wooden side-arm school desk; a
Jim Shore hot air balloon
replica; a monkey multiplication
collectible; Lincoln city
directories, unique paintings,
Brooks Catsup and Grape Maiden
posters, and an abundance of
other garage sale items
including Caterpillar toys,
linens, books, décor, chargers
and cords; a metal file box,
and cardboard file drawer set.

ESSAY CONTEST
ABRAHAM LINCOLN'S FAVORITE QUOTE
The Logan County
Genealogical & Historical Society is sponsoring
an essay contest for all Logan County
students in grades 5-8. The subject of
the essay contest is:
“My favorite Quote by Abraham Lincoln. Why
it is my favorite quote and how it relates to
today?”
The essay shall
be no more than 500 words in length (not
counting a, an, and, the). It may be
either typed, or handwritten in ink on
regular theme paper. No decorations,
pictures or other graphics are to be used.
A separate title page must include essay
title, student’s name and home address, grade in
school, and name of school.
The essays must
reach Roseann Coers, 48 1800th St,
New Holland IL 62671, by March 23, 2015.
If the essay is given as a class assignment, all
of the essays may be sent to her in the same
envelope.
Announcement of
the winner for each of the four grades will be
made on Sunday, April 12, 2015, at the Lincoln
Heritage Museum in Lincoln, at approximately
3:30 P.M. following the event, “A Nation Mourns,
April 15, 1865.” The Logan County
Genealogical & Historical Society is hosting
this event in observance of the 150th
anniversary of President Abraham Lincoln’s
assassination, death and funeral.

The Lincoln Heritage
Museum
The Logan County
Genealogical & Historical Society will observe
the
150th
anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s assassination,
death and funeral
on Sunday, April 12, 2015,
2:00 p.m. Under the theme, “A Nation
Mourns, April 15, 1865,” the event will take
place at the Lincoln Heritage Museum.
Charles Fricke will begin the afternoon with a
narration, written by Paul Gleason, Logan County
Historian, of the life and times of Abraham
Lincoln prior to April 15, 1865. Ron
Keller, Lincoln Heritage Museum Director, will
present a PowerPoint presentation of national
and local media coverage of President Lincoln’s
death and funeral. Alexa Maxey, a Lincoln
College student, will give a dramatic portrayal
related to the Lincoln assassination and funeral
titled “Louisa Hawes’s Story: How Logan County
Mourned a President and Friend”. Paul
Beaver, LC Professor Emeritus, will recount the
funeral preparations and travel plans taking
President Lincoln through the nation and home to
Springfield, Illinois. The Lincoln Heritage
Museum will be open at the time of this program
showcasing artifacts from the assassination and
funeral of President Lincoln.
